Next Show: Museo Dolores Olmedo

Image
I am going to exhibit a painting at the Dolores Olmedo Museum next June. Art critics have made a selection of Mexican contemporary art and my painting "The Road" was among the chosen ones. Dolores Olmedo permanent collection is a set of stunning galleries that show the work of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. And temporary exhibitions have shown work from Picasso, Moore, Rembrandt.... OK, this is not my next exhibition, because in May 12th take place the "Cèad in China" show at Hangzhou,China and in May 16th I am having a private solo show in Palmas, Mexico City but the importance of this museum made me highlightened it as my next show.

Atenea in San Miguel Allende

Image
I was in San Miguel Allende these last days. I am going to have a solo show at Atenea Gallery in July 1st, and I travel there to deliver some paintings and to get to know the space. San Miguel is one of the most beautiful places in Mexico. Here is possible to get away from the globalization of today's great cities and again do feel the culture, tradition and history of a Mexican Sanctuary. The city is full with color, aromas and flavours coming out from wonderful restaurants, pubs and art galleries. Atenea Gallery is one of the leading galleries in the country, it was granted the Grand America Award for quality and service in its category. It is located in a colonial, 19th century building in the historic district. It features several showrooms and a beautiful courtyard filled with plants, sculptures and bird whistles! The owners, Issac Uribe and Carlos Acuña are wonderful human beings and I am very happy to be able to show my work at this charming place.

White canvas?

Image
Recently I was interviewed for a magazine that will appear on May: ES. The question was: What does a white canvas means to me? When I am in front of a canvas I feel very excited. I have the power and the canvas could turn to be whatever I want ... It is quite stirring to see how from that canvas surges what you have in mind... and it is as well astonishing because the painting itself acquires own life as long as it grows up and sometimes I feel just as an spectator in front of the canvas. The beginning of a painting is for me a while of ecstasy. Painting is a form of acquiring self knowledge. A deep introspection into my being. It has happened to me many times that I thought I know something, but just when I paint it, I realize then, that I really didn't know it. When I paint I am able to make the object of my property, the object passes through me, and the result is me... and I shall confess that I am always surprised with the result... and not always pleased. A Loft?

Image
I guess that a painter's dream is to have a big place in where you can lay canvases everywhere and paint feeling all the space around you. I like to paint big, because then I have really the feeling that I may be immersed in my painting... Having a loft! That must be wonderful... But my studio is just the opposite, and now I have painted so much that there's no more space for me to paint... Once I read that a painting studio should have very tall ceilings... fortunately I have a small "patio" just in front my studio, and because I love plants I have put many pots around trying to make my place cosy and alife :) so whenever it is possible I set my painting easel out in the middle of the patio and here I have the best loft, with the best natural light, with my beloved plants and the highest ceiling a loft could ever have, the sky :)
