Dublin Opening Summary

I am back in London… the experience of exhibiting in Dublin was very fulfilling. The Urban Retreat gallery looks fantastic. It is located at the Ringsend and Grand Canal Dock, a place where the old and new Dublin collide. Daniel Libeskind theather is just in front and the U2 tower will be located in this area too. Local residents include Colin Farrell, the actor, Paul Durcan, the poet, and the current Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and Green Party leader, John Gormley.

The opening was crowded. Critic and press were all favorable.

I was very happy and impressed. The curatorial work was great. There was a plasma screen inside the gallery that was showing all the time views of Cill Rialaig, the inspiring place where I have made my paintings.
And something that I liked very much too, is that when the gallery is closed during night, there is a projector that is showing outside the gallery window images of my paintings. So people that are in all those fancy restaurants around might see what kind of work is in the gallery and come back during working hours.

The exhibition will be there at Hanover Quay until June 21st, 2009.

Ya regresé a Londres… la experiencia es exponer en Dublin fue muy gratificante. La galería Urban Retreat se ve maravillosa. Está localizada en la zona del Ringsend y el muelle del Gran Canal, un lugar donde el viejo y nuevo Dublin chocan. El teatro del Arq. Daniel Libeskind está justo al lado y la torre U2 de Foster estará localizada en esta area también. Entre los residents de esta zona están Colin Farrell, el actor, Paul Durcan , el poeta, y el actual ministro y lider del parido verde John Gormley.

La inauguración congregó mucha gente. La crítica y la prensa fueron favorables.

Yo estaba muy feliz e impresionada. La curaduría estaba bárbara. Había una pantalla de plasma dentro de la galería que mostraba las vistas de Cill Rialaig, el lugar que me inspiró a hacer estas pinturas.
Y algo que me agradó mucho también fue que cuando la galería cierra durante la noche, hay un proyector sobre la cortina externa de la galería que muestra imágenes de mis pinturas, de manera tal que las personas que van a los restaurants de los alrededores pueden dares cuenta de lo que se está exhibiendo en la galería y regresar en el horario en el cual está abierta.

La exposición seguirá ahí, en Hanover Quay hasta Junio 21 del 2009.

This weekend I went twice to the Royal Academy of Arts to the talks of Mexican Architects.  The first talk on Saturday was by architect Michel Rojkind. It was amazing, I liked very much the friendly and social approach to all of his projects, they are quite innovative and he thinks of people.  He is an excellent story teller and all the public was captured by his talk. He is a people person, and he reflects that in his architecture... the project that impact me the most was the on-site extension of la Cineteca Nacional. I loved this place since I was very young and used to live in Satélite; as I am a film lover remember driving every weekend there. Later I was lucky enough to live in Coyoacan so I travelled there by bike.  I was very impressed by the fact that Rojkind's project involves the whole area of the Cineteca, he includes the Archives in his plan and leaves the old Cineteca building untouched, giving tribute to the history of this old buildi...

A leap of faith

  13 years ago I took a leap of faith and came with my family to London.  I thought it was going to be easy. It was not. I thought that because during my youth I lived in another country, and it was one of the best experiences in my life. That other country was Germany, and since then I longed for Europe, well I confess I still do… because you should know, England is not Europe. Of course this is my very personal view. I was born in Mexico City, a vibrant and chaotic city. Mexico is a surreal beautiful country. When you are abroad you worth it even more.
