Dublin... Painting 1

The opening of my Solo Exhibition in Dublin will take place on May 21st, 2009. The Gallery is doing almost everything... I have only sent a press essay to Irish Arts Review Magazine and of course I cannot avoid being anxious, because this exhibition means so much for me. Since the first time I exhibit in Ireland my goal was Dublin... due to many reasons but the main one is that a part of my roots come from that small and enchanting European capital.
Thus I decided to start showing the paintings I will exhibit there. This one is called: "First Day", because the day I arrived in Cill Rialaig was at the middle of the night, I was exhausted after have driving more than 8 hours and being besides lost in the dark of the forest. That day I could hardly see anything because the cottage was surrounded by fog, and I was very afraid of being so far away from everything and maybe quite isolated for the next 6 weeks.

La inauguración de mi exposición individual en Dublin se llevará a cabo el 21 de Mayo del 2009. La Galería está haciendo casi todo... Yo solo envié un comunicado de prensa a la revista Irish Arts Review y no puedo evitar además sentirme ansiosa, porque esta exposición significa mucho para mi. Desde la primera vez que mostré mi obra en Irlanda, mi meta era Dublin... debido a muchas razones, pero la principal es quizás que parte de mis raíces vienen de esa pequeña y encantadora capital Europea.
Así que decidí empezar a mostrar aquí los cuadros que serán exhibidos allá. Éste se llama: "Primer día", porque el día que llegué a Cill Rialaig fue pasada la medianoche, estaba exhausta de haber manejado más de 8 horas y de haberme perdido en la oscuridad del bosque. Ese día apenas se podía ver nada ya que la cabaña estaba rodeada por la niebla, y yo estaba muy temerosa de estar tan lejos de todo y quizás bastante aislada por las siguientes 6 semanas.

Qué bien! Y así que eres dublinesa! Leíste ese libro maravilloso de Joyce, Dublineses? O viste la buenísima película que hizo John Huston con el libro?

Veo con satisfacción que todo marcha bien y que tu exposición en Dublín ya está en marcha, me alegra muchísimo ver tus exitos Odette.

Esa pitura, como siempre, en tu línea, me ha encantado.

No Zbelnu... No he leído nada de Joyce :( lo encuentro tan complejo... pero lo intentaré, lo prometo :)
Y eso de Dublinesa, si es así entonces también soy Española y Maya :)

No te veo Odette en un bar dublinés tomándote una cerveza con los dublineses, te veo más bien en una exposición de pintura o en una conferencia o en el mundo del arte y como no, también en la vida dura de mujer que se rebela, que se revela, que vive, que ama, que sufre, que disfruta, que siente.

This weekend I went twice to the Royal Academy of Arts to the talks of Mexican Architects.  The first talk on Saturday was by architect Michel Rojkind. It was amazing, I liked very much the friendly and social approach to all of his projects, they are quite innovative and he thinks of people.  He is an excellent story teller and all the public was captured by his talk. He is a people person, and he reflects that in his architecture... the project that impact me the most was the on-site extension of la Cineteca Nacional. I loved this place since I was very young and used to live in Satélite; as I am a film lover remember driving every weekend there. Later I was lucky enough to live in Coyoacan so I travelled there by bike.  I was very impressed by the fact that Rojkind's project involves the whole area of the Cineteca, he includes the Archives in his plan and leaves the old Cineteca building untouched, giving tribute to the history of this old buildi...

A leap of faith

  13 years ago I took a leap of faith and came with my family to London.  I thought it was going to be easy. It was not. I thought that because during my youth I lived in another country, and it was one of the best experiences in my life. That other country was Germany, and since then I longed for Europe, well I confess I still do… because you should know, England is not Europe. Of course this is my very personal view. I was born in Mexico City, a vibrant and chaotic city. Mexico is a surreal beautiful country. When you are abroad you worth it even more.
