White canvas?
Recently I was interviewed for a magazine that will appear on May: ES. The question was: What does a white canvas means to me?
When I am in front of a canvas I feel very excited. I have the power and the canvas could turn to be whatever I want ...
It is quite stirring to see how from that canvas surges what you have in mind... and it is as well astonishing because the painting itself acquires own life as long as it grows up and sometimes I feel just as an spectator in front of the canvas.
The beginning of a painting is for me a while of ecstasy. Painting is a form of acquiring self knowledge. A deep introspection into my being. It has happened to me many times that I thought I know something, but just when I paint it, I realize then, that I really didn't know it. When I paint I am able to make the object of my property, the object passes through me, and the result is me... and I shall confess that I am always surprised with the result... and not always pleased.
Oscar Wilde wrote:
Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the
artist, not of the sitter.
I agree with Oscar.
Comments
:)
The interview won't appear on May, but on June.
